Wednesday, 28 October
Well, the rain certainly got the better of us last week, and unfortunately we had no choice but to cancel Friday night’s program.
When we assessed the facilities again on Monday, the grounds were still extremely soft underfoot. We therefore made the decision to hold off on most activities this week to give the track and surrounding areas the best possible chance to dry out and recover ahead of this Friday night.
Unfortunately, the wet conditions have also made it difficult for our small maintenance team to carry out the usual weekly preparation work.
That means we will some extra help from our Sharks community on Thursday
Thanks, as always, for your continued support. We’re looking forward getting our relay teams out on the track and attempting to repeat last week’s Relay Night
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the track on Friday!
David and the Springwood Team
Thursday from 5:00pm
We’ll work to get the track and facilities back to a safe, usable condition for Friday night. Any time you can spare will be greatly appreciated, even if it’s only 30 minutes.
Got a whipper snipper, blower, rake or other useful gardening equipment? Bring it along. But most importantly, bring yourself!
I really can’t stress this enough: if we can’t get the facilities back to a safe condition on Thursday evening, there is a real possibility that we will need to cancel Friday night again.
So if you can lend a hand, please come down and help us give Friday night the best possible chance of going ahead.
Many hands really will make light work. Thanks, Sharkies!
We know families appreciate as much notice as possible, so we aim to make any weather-related decisions between 3:30 pm and 4:00 pm.
If the program needs to be cancelled or modified for safety reasons, we’ll post updates on our social media channels and email the primary contact address on your athlete’s registration.
Please make sure you’re following us on social media.

During the second session (if we have enough interest) we will be doing some relay practice (U9s can attend this session).
We hope our Age Marshal Briefing Sessions will be a useful addition to Friday nights. They’re a quick opportunity to go over anything important for the evening, while also giving Age Marshals the chance to ask questions, raise concerns or clarify anything before we get underway. It is important that someone from the group attends (even if you are not the Age Manager)
This Friday, we’ll be focusing on the 4 x 100m relays, including how we’ll form teams for the evening and which Regional Relay teams need to stay together for a practice run.
These briefings are very much a two-way conversation. The aim is to make sure our Age Marshals have the information and support they need and to help the night run that little bit more smoothly for everyone.
