FRIDAY's PROGRAM UPCOMING CARNIVALS

Having a good week, Sharkies

Well we shook out the cobwebs last week, and we are now in the full swing of things.

Things were going so well, we had two centre records broken - Jenny Hamilton U17 Female 1500m and Caleb de Vries in the High Jump.  It was impressive watching Caleb clear 1.88m and it was exciting for Junior Athletes and parents watching on as well as one interested club coach, the former record holder Nathan Taverner (pictured with Caleb).

In a clean segue from Coaches.  Next Week is our Coaching Clinic, which runs completely differently from standard centre evenings.

The night will have 45 minute sessions and athletes can select ANY event in that they wish to know more about and get tips on.

Coaching on offer includes:

Athletes should indicate which sessions they want to attend, either in person this Friday night or via this form (Link below)

2025/2026 Springwood Sharks Little Athletics Coaching Clinic Night – Fill in form Please note - some sessions may have limited numbers so get in quick.

FRIDAY'S PROGRAM

This week's program sees hurdles return to the track.  It is an event that requires a lot of additional involvement from members (setting up, moving and packing up) so please, if you do not have another role on the night, go and assist on the track at hurdles, it is a perfect way to watch your athletes from trackside.

COACHING

Coaching sessions continue to grow as coaches become more available.  We have a full week, starting with Throws on Saturday and finishing on Wednesday Walks with Coach Judy and Coach Makayla. We also want to recognise the four parents, Lauren Shapcott, Renee Kime, Mary Jones, and Surjeet Atwal, who have commenced or are about to commence coaching credentials, adding to our pool of coaches we can draw from to improve our centre coaching (both on Friday night and throughout the week).

We also want to recognise a past Sharkie, Darius Maris, who will be returning to assist in coaching at the centre.  He joins fellow Alumni coaches, Dylan Trauntner and Nathan Tavener and I believe, as well as being a parent, Renee Kime and Coach Leah (Tiny Tots) are past Sharkie as well.  Let us know if you are a past Sharkie as its great to hear stories of Athletes returning with their own athletes, or getting involved in the community.

Ever thought about coaching?! As you can see, we can only offer coaching around our coaches and their schedules, which leads me to introduce the following initiative.

Hey Sharkie parents,

We're excited to announce an awesome opportunity coming up for parents to get involved and help our club grow!

As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the experience and skill development for our athletes, we're looking for interested parents to complete a Level 1 Queensland Athletics coaching course, and we're covering the cost!

Here's the deal:

If you're interested in learning to coach and advancing your skill set, we want to hear from you!

We'll cover 50% of the course cost upfront, and if you commit to weekly or fortnightly coaching for the rest of the season, we'll cover the remaining 50%!

Not only will you be supporting our club and athletes, but you'll also gain valuable skills and experience.

If you're keen to get involved and make a difference, please reply to this post or send me a message expressing your interest. We'll provide more details on the course and next steps.

Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to be part of our club's growth and development!

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Coach Jez
